Client: Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd
Project Value: €
Project Summary
This scheme, located in Leitrim County, Ireland, is for a new inter-urban dual carriageway of
11 kilometre length, which also includes nine principal structures (three overbridges, four
underpasses, one river bridge and one railway bridge) and two roundabouts.
The new bypass will take traffic volumes of up to 6,000 vehicles per day which are currently going through
the villages of Dromod and Roosky. The timely delivery of this scale of project has required the
co-operation and assistance of several environmentally linked organisations to ensure that the works
were undertaken in accordance with current legislation covering the protection of plant and wildlife.
The earthworks involved the excavation and disposal of over 500,000 m³ of unsuitable soft clay and peat,
the excavation and placing of 900,000 m³ of suitable clay and rock, the excavation and replacement of
45,000 m³ of topsoil and the importation of approximately 160,000 m³ of processed rock. Over the summer
of 2006, a major archaeological excavation took place in the townland of Edercloon.
