Mubende Kagadi Road Project, Uganda

Services Provided:
The project was carried out in 2 stages Kakumiro to Kagadi and Mubende to Kakumiro comprising a total of 110 Km of rural road.

The project involved the rehabilitation and upgrading of the 110km long rural road from Mubende to Kagadi in Kibale Province in Central Uganda.

The works involved the widening of the existing carraigeway to Class C standard, and the construction of new pavement layers (sub-base, base and wearing course, both granular and DBSD).

The project employed local labour as much as possible in order to implement many aspects of the Works including site clearance, drainage, culverts, and erosion control. The Works were implemented in this way with close consultation with Irish Aid (Project Funding Agency), the International Labour Organisation, local Government Agencies and NGOs.

Post project assessment by the OECD (DAC Committee) has confirmed that project objectives, in terms of benefits to the region, are being achieved and there has been a significant increase in general commercial activity in the area served by the road.
