Project Summary: The Preliminary Report (PR) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for this project have been completed by J.B. Barry and Partners Limited (JBB) and approved by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

JBB were subsequently appointed to carry out the following detailed design and construction supervision stages of the project. Detailed Design and Contract documents are being completed.

  • Contract No.1 involves the upgrading and extension of the existing foul and storm sewer network. Completed to the New Form of Public Works Contract.
  • Contract No.2 is for the upgrading of the existing Waste Water Treatment Plant from 16,500 PE to 30,000 PE. Completed to the FIDIC Gold Book and consultations with the DoECLG regarding the required amendments.

Services Provided:
Contract No.1
  • Upgrade of approximately 3.9km of existing foul, combined and storm sewer pipelines (upgraded diameters range from 300mm to 750mm) by both open cut and trenchless techniques
  • Design of approximately 5km of new foul sewer pipelines (diameters range from 300mm to 450mm) by both open cut and trenchless techniques
  • Design of approximately 0.5km of new storm sewers, (diameters range from 300mm to 600mm)
  • Sewer rehabilitation of approximately 5.7km of sewers
  • Mechanical and electrical design works to 7 existing pumping stations
  • Foreshore licence applications
  • Ecological works including NHA/SAC/SPA applications to the NPWS, Screening Assessment, bat and mammal surveys
  • Tender documents to the Public Works Contract and suitability assessments

Contract No.2
  • Combined Inlet Screen comprising of 2 no. 6mm inlet screens, grit removal, grit classifier and storm water overflow
  • Conversion of existing conventional activated sludge basins to a stormwater holding tank and the existing picket fence thickener tank to a final effluent storage tank
  • Sequencing Batch Reactors (4 no.) with a total volume of 11,600m3 to provide Carbonaceous Nitrogen and Phosphorus Reduction
  • Chemical phosphorus removal plant and odour control equipment
  • Outlet flume and final effluent pumping station
  • Sludge Dewatering Process Building comprising of 2 no Gravity belt Thickeners (Duty / Duty Assist) and associated Progressive Cavity Feed Pumps, 2 no Centrifuges (Duty / Duty Assist) and associated Progressive Cavity Feed Pumps, associated Polymer Dosing facilities for GBT and Centrifuge, 3 no skips, 2 no Progressive Cavity Feed Pump and associated pipework, valves and fittings
  • Air blower room comprising of 4 no. Air Blowers and associated pipework, valves and fittings to deliver the required air to the SBR process basins via fine bubble air diffusers installed at the bottom of each basin
  • A sludge treatment facility catering for sludge generated on-site and in satellite WWTP’s to dewater sludge to 20% Dry Solids (DS)
  • Administration Building upgrade comprising of new laboratory, canteen and meeting room facilities
  • Design of telemetry and SCADA System
  • Tender documents to the FIDIC Gold Book Conditions of Contract, including consultations with the DoECLG regarding required amendments
  • Prequalification documents to the Public Works Contract and amendments required by the use of FIDIC Gold Book
