Key Features:
J. B. Barry & Partners Ltd were retained to prepare a report on the flooding event in Ringsend, along the banks of the Dodder River. The flooding in February 2002 was caused by a surge tide event. The river study reach is 2,088m. JBB were also required to investigate the existing embankments and bridges from Ballsbridge to Ringsend Bridge - a stretch of approximately 1,650m.

J. B. Barry & Partners reviewed the available tide level information for the February 2002 event at Dun Laoghaire, Howth and Dublin Port and all available level records at Dublin Port from 1924 - 2002. The flooding in Ringsend in February 2002 was caused by a tidal surge on top of a high tide and not due to rainfall/river flows. The February 2002 w as an unprecedented tidal event. A top of wall/flood protection level was recommended.

A structural assessment of the bridges riverbanks and walls was carried out and recommendations made regarding rehabilitation and repair. Contract Documents were prepared for emergency repair works between Ringsend Bridge and London Bridge. The works involved sheetpiling and ancillary rehabilitation works. The works were completed in 2003.
